CHRIS LEKAVICH
Born and raised in Huntington Beach, California. While growing up, Chris played for many AYSO and club teams; as the starting goalkeeper.
Chris went to Marina High School where he played on both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. He received many awards and recognitions for his play. After graduating high school, he went to Golden West College. Where he continued to play soccer and began his pursuit for a college degree. He also played on the DSV Danubia Men’s League team, until he entered the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in 1992.
While in the USMC, Chris played for various teams throughout his service before being honorably discharged in 1996. The teams Chris played for while in the Marine Corps include: Marine Team – Rota, Spain, School of Infantry Soccer Team – Camp Pendleton, West Coast All Star Team, All Marine Corps Team; and the Honorable Mention All Service Team. He won many awards and honors for his goalkeeping skills and for his services to our country. While playing on all these teams he helped each team win many tournaments and awards.
In 1996, Chris received a full athletic scholarship to California State University of Fullerton to play Division 1 Soccer. Here he played under head coach Al Mistri, assistant coach Bob Ammann, and assistant coach/goalie coach Zak Abdel. He was formally trained in goalkeeping at Cal State Fullerton by Zak Abdel (a former Egyptian National Team goalkeeper and a holder of Class A Bundesliga coaching license; former goalkeeper trainer for the LA Galaxy & Chivas USA, US Men’s & Women’s National Team, current trainer for the Egyptian National Team). Chris gained a great deal of insight playing under the recognizably established CSUF coaching staff. Chris graduated Cal State Fullerton with a degree in History.
Because of his love and passion for the game and the in-depth knowledge he attained at that position; before graduating college, Chris began his career in training goalkeepers for various clubs and privately. He was the goalkeeper trainer for Cerritos High School, Huntington Beach High School, Cypress High School, Laguna Hills High School, University High School. Chris has trained for Cerritos United Soccer Club, F.C. Irvine and F.C. South Coast Bayern (South Coast Strikers). He has also tried for local colleges such as Soka University. He is the current trainer for the National* & California State Champion (2008-2009 season, 2014-2015 season, 2018-2019* season) men's team at Cerritos Community College. He has trained keepers for an indoor arena soccer teams, as well. Chris has trained approximately over 110 private students ranging in age from 8 years old to 39 years old.
Chris has over 35 years of playing and training experience at various levels of the sport. He holds a Goalkeeping Level 1 certificate from National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). In his training he has been able to improvise, adapt, and overcome all deficiencies existing in goalkeepers’ forms prior to his training. Chris’s training methods greatly improve the athletic skill and levels of his goalkeepers. Because of this, many of his students have been scouted to play for higher level teams/clubs (locally and worldwide), offered scholarships to colleges, and have won various prestigious titles and tournaments.
Additionally, Chris's knowledge of athletic success extends beyond soccer. Chris has assisted many athletes of various sports in improving their overall speed, quickness, agility, and endurance.
My goal is to keep training goalkeepers at the highest levels of the sport!
